In recent years, porcelain veneers have become a popular treatment option for those wanting to change the way their smile looks. This trend is often influenced by the increase in images of perfect smiles shared across social media.
Porcelain veneers are designed to improve the look, shape, or alignment of teeth. They can be used to address issues such as chips, staining, gaps, or mild misalignment. At The Dental Room, our team works closely with our in-house ceramist, Ms Chloe Park, to create veneers tailored to each individual.
Why porcelain dental veneers are often recommended
Veneers can be made from either porcelain or composite resin, and each has its place depending on the situation. We often recommend porcelain because of its durability and natural look.
When crafted carefully, porcelain veneers can reflect light in a way that mimics natural tooth enamel, giving them depth and texture. They are also non-porous, which means they are less likely to stain compared to resin veneers.
Another consideration is strength. Porcelain is generally more resilient than composite resin. With good oral care, porcelain veneers can last many years.
Other options
By comparison, resin veneers are a lot more porous and tend to stain a lot quicker. They are also very prone to chipping. They typically last around five years before requiring replacement.
Cost is a big factor in why some clients elect for resin veneers over the more expensive offering.
Others opt for composite veneers owing to the fact dentists don’t need to drill into your teeth in order to fit them. Having said that, advancements in oral health product development mean that there’s now an opportunity for clients to access prepless veneers in certain situations, eliminating the need for any drilling.
Meet our in-house ceramist
Having developed quite a reputation for the quality of our dental veneers, The Dental Room has its own in-house ceramist, Ms Chloe Park, who crafts our porcelain veneers on site from scratch.
Working with our in-house ceramist means we save time by not having to send work away to an external lab. This allows us to make adjustments on the spot and ensure veneers are tailored to each individual.
The process of having veneers fitted is straightforward. After preparing the surface of your teeth, we take an impression before attaching temporary veneers. These allow you to preview the look while your final veneers are being handcrafted.
At The Dental Room, every veneer is custom-made by our master ceramist, Ms Chloe Park, to suit the individual case. Once ready, we remove the temporary veneers and place the porcelain veneers. In some cases, people may choose to colour-match neighbouring teeth, although this is optional.
Porcelain veneers are designed to blend in with natural teeth. They can be cared for in the same way as your own teeth, with regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups.
