Invisalign For Adults – Does It Work?

For many adults, when it comes to teeth straightening, it’s usually something they’ve dedicated to providing for their children, rather than for themselves. If you’re a parent, I’m guessing you can certainly appreciate that!

But whether you’re a parent or not, achieving your dream smile isn’t time limited to just your teenage years. More and more adults these days are achieving their dream smile using Invisalign®. In fact, Invisalign® has now helped more than 8 million people worldwide!

From comfort to its aesthetics, Invisalign® is becoming a very popular teeth straightening solution for adults. Perhaps there is a special occasion that you want to improve your smile for. Or maybe it’s just time to spoil yourself and finally fix your teeth using Invisalign®

That’s why in this article we’re taking a closer look at Invisalign®. We will explore what all the fuss is about, plus how it compares to other teeth straightening solutions.

They’re Like Invisible Braces

Similar to clear braces, Invisalign® has changed the game when it comes to teeth-straightening. Invisalign® is an exciting innovative technology that’s been rapidly growing in popularity over the last decade. Invisalign® abandons the metal wire and brackets altogether in favour of clear removable aligners.

There are lots of benefits to Invisalign® that make them particularly attractive to our adult clients:

  • Invisalign® aligners are made of clear plastic, so they’re almost completely unnoticeable.
  • They can be taken out to eat, drink, and clean your teeth. This means there are no diet restrictions or additional cleaning routines while you’re undergoing treatment.
  • They’re one of the most affordable orthodontic options.
  • Invisalign® has proven to be very effective in treating many complex bite issues.

Invisalign® aligners must be worn for at least 22 hours each day. Although these aligners can be removed, in order for the treatment to be effective, compliance is essential.

Key Benefits Of Invisalign for Adults?

Aesthetics and removability are the main reasons why many adults prefer Invisalign®.

Traditional metal braces are simply very noticeable, whereas Invisalign® is very difficult to see at all. Out of all the treatment options available, Invisalign® is the most aesthetically pleasing option. That’s one of the reasons why this treatment has become so popular so quickly.

Invisalign® also has less overall impact on your daily life. You don’t need to start a complex cleaning regime to care for your orthodontics, or will you need a special soft diet. You can take the aligners out whenever you eat and then clean your teeth just like you normally would.

How does it compare to other treatment options

Before you decide whether or not Invisalign® is the right teeth-straightening solution for you, it’s important to get a good understanding of all other treatment options available first. Here are some of them:

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces use the same wire and bracket setup as metal braces, with an important twist; the brackets are made of tooth-coloured ceramic, with the wires coloured white.

Using ceramic and white wires makes ceramic braces much more subtle in appearance than metal braces. Yet provide all the mechanical benefits of the traditional metal braces.

Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces use a series of metal wires and brackets to adjust the position of teeth. Brackets are fixed to the teeth, and wires are used to apply the appropriate pressure.

Traditional metal braces are the oldest type of braces, and are incredibly reliable. They’re still commonly used, and are often the ‘go-to’ option for children and teenagers.

One of the most common concerns to metal braces, other than how much braces cost, is aesthetics. Metal braces are incredibly noticeable, and many adults would prefer not to have something quite so obvious on their teeth.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are perhaps the most aesthetically pleasing of all the bracket and wire options, as they’re almost impossible to notice without getting up close and personal.

That’s because lingual braces are attached to the lingual (“tongue”) side of the teeth. This means that the wires and brackets are completely hidden behind the teeth, and can’t be seen when smiling, talking, or eating, except from very specific angles.

Lingual braces are very complicated to attach properly, and as such come with a considerable price tag. They could easily be one of the most expensive types of orthodontic treatment. Many find them difficult to get used to, considering the braces are fixed to the inside of the teeth.

How to select the right Invisalign® dentist?

Just as selecting the right teeth straightening solution is important, so is selecting the provider of that treatment.

At The Dental Room, we’re a proud Platinum Invisalign® Provider (2019). Founded by Dr Shawn Rama, a leading aesthetic dentist who strives to achieve the most natural smile for every one of his clients.

Although Invisalign® is one of the most technologically advanced teeth straightening products available, you still need an experienced dentist to drive the treatment right from the start.

We’ve treated many clients using this innovative treatment. Every case we see is unique, and we treat each as such. We follow a no-extraction approach in most cases, meaning we will do our best to avoid the removal of teeth to relieve crowding.

To find out if you’re a suitable candidate for Invisalign®, or to find out what orthodontic treatment may be best for you, we offer a complimentary assessment. Contact us today to schedule an appointment, and get started on your journey toward achieving the smile you’ve always wanted.
