Dental Implants in Melbourne
The Dental Room uses advanced, state-of-the-art technology with 3D printing to deliver natural-looking, long-lasting dental implants in Melbourne.
Dental implants – what are they?
Melbournians: Whether you have suffered a sports injury, have gum/bone loss or periodontal disease or missing teeth, this may have left you wondering what your options are to fix them. You may have researched ‘dental implants Melbourne’, or perhaps you’ve discussed other treatment options such as dentures or bridges with local clinics but not had any luck in landing on a solution. Look no further than The Dental Room in Melbourne for all your dental implant needs.
Dental implants are a very common procedure here and one that Dr Shawn Rama and his team at The Dental Room in Melbourne regularly do – it’s second nature to them! This fact, combined with advanced innovation at the clinic, means that dental implants have become the gold standard for teeth replacement options at The Dental Room. We also have our very own in-house master ceramist Ms Chloe Park, which means the entire process of dental implants is looked after under one roof, and this isn’t something you’ll find very easily elsewhere. As a result, clients at our North Balwyn clinic can receive world-class implant dentistry right in their hometown of Melbourne.
Dental implants Melbourne are essentially titanium posts that mimic roots placed into your jaw bone beneath your gums. Once in place, they provide a solid foundation for a ceramic crown or bridge placed onto the implant. And these replacement teeth will be made to match your natural teeth, so they offer a very authentic restorative option.
Unlike dentures, you don’t need to remove dental implants for cleanings, and you can still eat the foods you love, which means Melbourne coffee – hurrah! Furthermore, you can brush dental implants as you would your regular teeth, chew food with them, and to the untrained eye, they look no different to your teeth! Pretty impressive, hey?
What different types of dental implants are available?
Here at The Dental Room, we are able to cater to all your implant needs, be it for a single tooth replacement to full mouth rehabilitation. The scope of our work therefore includes Individual Implants, Denture Stabilisation Solutions and Fixed-on-Four or more implant full mouth restorations.
Individual Implants replace a single tooth or multiple teeth that are usually next to each other.
A regular denture rests on the gums, not helped by implants. Denture stabilisation consists of a modified denture that is attached to at least two dental implants using specialised attachments. Also known as Snap-on Dentures, the anchorage to the dentures provided by the implants make them feel secure and comfortable. So much so that you can bite into an apple without the denture flipping out. This has been a paradigm shift in denture wear.
Fixed-on-Four is exactly how it sounds. It is for those that require half or complete sets of teeth replaced. Inserted into the jawbone, they are an excellent option for clients with periodontal or bone issues, as an entire set of teeth is supported by just 4 to 6 implants.
How long do dental implants last?
Providing you have proper dental hygiene and regular check-ups, dental implants are durable and can last a lifetime, making them an excellent long-term option for smile restoration.
How much do dental implants cost in Melbourne?
The cost of a dental implant will vary depending on each individual’s needs. These include the type of implant, the complexity of each case, and the extent of the procedure.

Are dental implants right for you?
Dental Implants Melbourne procedures are best for anyone struggling with missing teeth, poorly fitting dentures or those with damaged or loose teeth due to gum disease should highly consider getting a dental implant.
We see Melbourne clients who mistakenly think that losing one tooth is inconsequential. This is not true. Over time, missing teeth can affect jaw function, create malocclusion, and affect your day-to-day diet. Gaps between teeth allow neighboring teeth to drift into unoccupied spaces. When teeth aren’t in their proper position, you begin to have issues with bite alignment (malocclusion), irregular teeth wear, and jaw stress.
Today, with new technology and advancements in dental implant procedures and the expert skills of Dr Shawn and his team at The Dental Room in Melbourne, there are very few clients who are unable to have a dental implant.
To find out if dental implants are right for you, you’ll attend an initial Smile Consultation with Dr Shawn Rama at The Dental Room. Dr Shawn will go over your dental history, discuss your queries or concerns, costing, and the various dental options available to you. If all looks well, you will then set up a schedule for your appointments.
The dental implants procedure
When it comes to the dental implant Melbourne procedure, we are specially trained in digital planning technology, using the future of implant dentistry to help guide us to fix your future smile.
The first time that the dental implant procedure was completed using titanium was in 1965 and was performed by an orthopedic surgeon by the name of Branemark. The rest, as they say, is history. Dental implants have continued to evolve and adapt to become an excellent solution for tooth loss with an extremely high long term success rate of almost 97%.
Today, Dr Shawn Rama utilises the latest in implant materials and technology in-house to create a very streamlined one-stop solution for all his clients requiring dental implant procedures. There are three key steps in our implant procedure, as outlined below:
- Implant consultation and planning. The key to long term implant success is in the planning. We utilise the latest in-house 3D scanning software to first assess the bone in terms of volume and quality for implant placement. Various treatment plan options and costs will be discussed with you after the detailed evaluation.
Implant 3D-guided keyhole surgery. The placement of the dental implant is typically a one-hour appointment and is done using a gentle keyhole method under local anesthesia.
Traditionally implant surgery involved having to raise gum flaps to gain access to the underlying jawbone in order to place the implant. Dr Shawn’s ability to do the entire process in a keyhole manner means that the process is quicker and, very importantly, gentler and equates to less postoperative tenderness and quicker healing times.
3D-guided surgery. This scan of your jaw is then transformed into a 3D printed guide which is then locked into place in your mouth to use as a location map for your new dental implants. The margin for error is reduced when we plan out the precise positions in advance.
- Implant crown placement. This step typically occurs three months after the implant surgery – to allow optimal time for the integration of the implant to the bone – a process called osseointegration. At this appointment, a scan of your dental implant is taken for our in house ceramist Chloe to customise a crown to be placed over the implant.
What to expect after getting dental implants
There are many reasons to be excited for what you can expect after having your dental implants Melbourne fitted:
Natural look and feel
Dental implants Melbourne look and feel like natural teeth. They allow you to speak, eat, and smile as you usually (unlike dentures, which sometimes slip around). Only the trained eye may pick up that you have implants, meaning you can smile with confidence and mum’s the word if you so wish!
Dental implants in Melbourne are permanent, reliable, convenient, and comfortable
Your implants will be fused to your bone, therefore built for life and essentially a part of you. As a result, they rarely come loose or fracture, unlike dentures. In addition, you’ll never need to have them replaced, providing you keep up with proper dental hygiene and regular check-ups. Therefore, dental implants Melbourne are an excellent long-term option for smile restoration..
A restoration that doesn’t compromise healthy teeth
Tooth-supported bridges require grinding down healthy teeth on either side of the missing tooth, therefore damaging healthy teeth. Dental implants Melbourne are inserted into the jawbone, replacing missing teeth without harming the healthy ones.
No foods barred!
With dental implants Melbourne, you can eat anything, just like you would with your original teeth. This removes the awkwardness or disappointment in cutting out certain foods – unlike dentures, which makes eating certain foods difficult. You can also laugh, speak, and sneeze as you would normally, without the fear of your dentures flying out!
Healthy, happy, bone
Dental implants Melbourne keep your jawbone healthy and robust, therefore preventing bone loss, which can also change your appearance and the shape of your face.
